Sept. 21, 1968

Recognize anyone? ......and they said it wouldn't last! 38 years! Amazing......A few days after our wedding, we loaded up our '65 Chevy, and headed for California where Sam was stationed. Everything we owned was in that car. We had a map, but no place to live and no idea where in the heck we were going! Were we ever naive! We got to Long Beach, and found this "beautiful" studio apartment for $100 a month. WOW! So many years ago - so much has happened. We have a beaufitul family, which we are so thankful for and 6 of the cutest grandkids around.
Just thought that you might all enjoy the picture. Have a great week-end!
Love,
Sam & Karen

Thank you for the anniversary greetings! A week before we got married, the minister told us that we weren't compatible. WRONG! He told that to Lee & Diane Boleyn too!
No special plans for the week-end - - maybe go out to eat tomorrow night. I think that dad is going to the farm with Roger on Saturday. That will be good for him.
Have a good week-end!
Love,
mom

Karen,
Happy Anniversary to you and Sam! I didn't know when you got married, and actually it is almost the same as Dave's and my anniversary. Our story sounds like yours....we got married Sept. 24, 1966...when you were a probably in English class or something [and I should have been I guess]. 4 days later we got on a train and headed for Texas, where Dave was stationed. Like you, we had not found a place to live, but we found a small apartment for $52/mo [Dave brought home $46 every 2 wks, so most of it went to rent! But we could buy groceries for $5/week ] Neither of us was used to having much, and we just had fun being together. By February, he was off to Vietnam, and I stayed with his folks in Elgin. Thankfully he came home safe a year later, and got acquainted with Angela who was born while he was gone. Then we too loaded our newly purchased used car and headed west, for his final 6 months of service in Olympia Washington. It was so exciting to us to drive out there, seeing the mountains for the first time.
And so, our anniversary was close to yours. I loved being married and never minded that I got married so young. It is all so sad that it all came to an end after 32 years. And so I congratulate you both and wish you many many more years together. You are on one of the bumpy roads of life at the moment, but when you are together, and have someone strong beside you, you can make it through anything.
God Bless...
